WebDickens County was created in 1876 from Bexar County and later was successively attached to Mitchell County and Baylor County for judicial purposes, but was finally organized March 19, 1891. The County was named from J. Dickens, (actually J. Dinkens, sometimes quoted in history as J. Dempkins) who gave his life in the Battle of the Alamo.
